Days...OK a week or 2 away from crafts site launch!!! I swear

Oh, I'm so close to site launch date I can taste the satisfaction of all my hard work over the past year or so already on my lips! Smack, smack...Yum!

And, not only am I preparing for the launch of rivervalleycrafts.com, but I've been working away to make enticing ceramic wares for our holiday sale coming up at the studio: cornerstonepotterynyc.blogspot.com.

Thanks for your patience all who have emailed and inquired about the RVC site. Soon, soon. I'm shooting for the week of my birthday, just around the corner. The best gift I can think to give myself.

La Chamba Pottery, Colombian Traditional Ceramics, Burnished Blackware

Last night one of my students in my ceramics hand building class gave me a coffee cup of blackened earthenware handmade in the region of Colombia she is from. I'm thrilled by it. It's gorgeous and feels good in my hands.

I did a little quick web research to learn that it is La Chamba Pottery and is still made today using a clay indigineous to the area where it is made and using ancient techniques passed down through centuries. Archaeologists believe the region is where pottery was first made in the Americas.

I've just moved a trip to Colombia to the very top of my travels wish list, slightly ahead of Japan.
